The search for an institution that will fit the requirements for Innodata’ Corporate Social Responsibility project has led the team to the hills of Brgy Bagasawe in Tuburan Cebu; to a home that serves as a temporary shelter, rehabilitation and livelihood training center for women ages eight and above who are victims of prostitution. The Mary Queen of Heaven Missionaries-Home of Love’s, sole purpose is to provide these girls and women a shelter that will facilitate their spiritual, emotional, and social healing. Run by Catholic nuns, this shelter also sends these girls to formal education that trains and equip them with skills for a decent source of livelihood in the future.
It is with this thrust to improve these girls education that the Innodata CSR team finds a perfect fit with the company’s own advocacy and vision in improving girls’ access to education and computer literacy. Thus, after due consideration and planning Innodata turned-over to the nuns the completed Computer Room equipped with a projector and seven (7) computer sets.
The turned-over was facilitated with a brief blessing and dedication ceremony followed by a mass celebrated at the Home of Love itself. It was duly attended by the company’s COO, AK Mishra who expresses understanding of the institutions need and the troubling reality of the girls’ plight; while intoning that he looks forward to a future where we no longer have to build such homes. What the nuns have done at the Home of Love and Innodata’s commitment to be able to help improve access to education and computer literacy for girls hopefully will be a step into that direction.
The Home of Love’s Directress and Mother Vicar also expresses deep gratitude for Innodata’s assistance in their fight for a decent life for these young girls. She also mentioned that she much thankful for the profound sense of personal commitment from those who are made instruments in this act of love and kindness.
With that, we are also treated by the girls and the nuns with a wonderful display of their talents. Their golden voices more than make up for the long travel and the hilly climb into their home. But more importantly, we have glimpse from their eyes not just gratitude but that of a renewed hope. Hope that they too can surpass whatever they’ve been through and that there are people who are not only rooting for them to succeed but are also willing to help them achieved what they were initially deprived of.
