Innodata's Commitment to a Greener Future
Innodata is at the forefront of corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives that focus on environmental conservation and sustainability. With a dedicated CSR Community Resilience Team, Innodata has been actively engaged in projects that contribute to a greener and more resilient future.
Reforestation in Bulang, Philippines
In August 2023, Innodata’s CSR Community Resilience Team, in collaboration with the local government and under the visionary leadership of Brgy. Chairman Caridad Coprada, initiated a significant reforestation project in Bulang, Philippines. This endeavor aimed to address the challenges posed by deforestation, natural disasters, and climate change while improving the overall ecological health of the region.
A total of 34 dedicated volunteers joined forces, collectively planting over 250 native tree seedlings. The choice of native species was critical to restoring the local ecosystem effectively. These trees would not only help combat deforestation but also contribute to the conservation and rehabilitation of the area’s biodiversity.
The project received essential support from the Tiwi DENR Watershed Plant Nursery, ensuring the availability of native seedlings for the reforestation effort. Joan C. Callos, the Officer-in-Charge of the Municipal Agriculturist Department at GU Malinao, facilitated logistical arrangements and provided invaluable support to ensure the initiative’s success.
Careful consideration was given to choosing an appropriate site for the reforestation activity, taking into account factors such as soil quality, topography, and proximity to water sources. The 34 volunteers, guided by local authorities and experts, meticulously planted the seedlings, emphasizing proper spacing and planting techniques to optimize tree growth. Continuous monitoring and maintenance will be crucial to ensure the seedlings’ survival and eventual self-sustainability.
This reforestation activity serves as a powerful testament to the potential of community engagement, collaboration, and environmental stewardship. It not only protects the environment but also fosters a sense of community pride and solidarity among the residents of Brgy. Bulang and beyond. As these seedlings grow into mature trees, their positive impact on the local ecosystem will continue to benefit the region for generations to come.
Saving the La Mesa Watershed with ABS-CBN Foundation and EACI
In another remarkable environmental initiative, Innodata has joined hands with ABS-CBN Foundation’s Bantay Kalikasan and BAR Abstracting Co. Inc. (EACI) to support the ‘Save the La Mesa Watershed’ project in Quezon City. This project focuses on the vital task of planting sandalwood seedlings in the La Mesa Watershed, a critical step in restoring ecosystems and replenishing groundwater resources.
In August 2023, 50 enthusiastic CSR volunteers gathered at the lush La Mesa Watershed to plant 400 sandalwood seedlings. Despite the drizzling rain, these dedicated volunteers armed with shovels and determination were guided by local foresters who provided insights into the importance of native sandalwood trees in supporting the local ecosystem.
The project builds upon the success of the previous year’s tree planting efforts within the La Mesa Watershed, where an impressive average survival rate of 93.84% was achieved across seven enriched areas spanning approximately 266 hectares. This survival rate exceeded the stipulated minimum of 85% set forth by the National Greening Program, as reported by the Department of Natural Resources (DEN) in March 2023.
Dave Mariano, speaking on behalf of Innodata, emphasized that true success would be measured over the years as these seedlings grow into robust trees, providing essential water resources for the La Mesa Watershed. The impact of this tree planting mission goes beyond immediate results; it lays the foundation for a sustainable and ecologically resilient future.
In recognition of their contributions, EACI received the ‘Plant a Forest’ certificate awarded by ABS-CBN Foundation. This certificate signifies a lasting legacy of sustainability, biodiversity, and ecological resilience in the La Mesa Water Reserve, thanks to the efforts of these 50 volunteers. Their mission serves as a poignant reminder of the transformative power of collective action when individuals and organizations unite with a shared vision of a greener and healthier planet.
